Siyajabula, stage name is ZWA, is a 1992 baby. Zwa
was born in Durban and raised in the streets of Umkomaas. He is well recognised
for his rap skills and versatility as an artist. Although he is purely a Rapper, he is
able to experiment with sub-genres of Hip Hop, such as Trap and New Age
Kwaito. He frequently uses vernacular and adlibs that match his lively local sound
which makes his music stand out and even more enjoyable.
Apart from his musical career, he has a broad portfolio in advertising which entails
voice-overs and vocals for both radio and corporate companies. Furthermore, he has
experience in the production of theme songs for shows on television as it is one of
his many talents. He has had the opportunity in working with Gagasi FM and other
Johannesburg based companies in this regard and he is seeking to achieve more
opportunities such as these.
Through the course of his musical career he has collaborated with a number of local
and international artists and producers. He has collaborated with artists such as,
Fable Makalima, Dann Avenew, TSDO, Loki and Hiiidro a producer from
Durban, who is also his personal producer as well as Chilies who is his personal DJ.
He is also part of music group known as Young Kingz. However, Zwa is an
independent solo artist.
Zwa has performed in various areas in Durban and Johannesburg from Cool
Runnings, 8 Morrison, Absolute, ENRG, Vacca Matta, Happy Hippo, Ushaka
Marine to Kitchener’s Koolout in Johannesburg. He has been on the top 20 of the
famous Hip- Hop series called The Vuzu Hustle. He has also been on an interview
on Gagasi FM in the Afternoon Drive Show, prior to that he was on Y FM with DJ
Speedsta and Zai Maya. He was then featured on an article by also The Daily Sun
newspaper whereby he discussed his music career and spoke briefly about his goals
pertaining to his career. Zwa was involved in an anti-drug campaign in Umkomaas
called the 60 Minutes Show. His biggest achievements are opening up for Khuli
Chana in 2016 at ENRG and performing alongside Reason at Koolout.
Zwa is a very creative, fearless, versatile and open-minded artist. He experiments
with various sounds and is able to adjust to merge his sound with any genre as well
as integrate different genres to make a new sound. He often blends elements of Jazz
and Hip Hop. His sound is said to be wavey because of the ever-catchy lyrics and
melodies combined with different flows, in his delivery. His sound is also best
described in this way because of the musical elements in the production, with the
use of catchy baselines and kicks merged with harmonic vibes added by the use of a
piano or jazz instruments.
